How should I follow up with my referrals?

09/09/2024

The most successful and highest-earning entrepreneurs know that “the fortune is in the follow-up” and capitalize on it by always following up multiple times. Indeed, according to The National Sales Executive Association and The Mind Capture Group, the average sale is closed as follows:

  • 2% on 1st contact
  • 3% on 2nd contact
  • 5% on 3rd contact
  • 10% on 4th contact
  • 80% on 5th through 12th contact

Your follow-up technique and message will differ depending on the group you're contacting. Basically, these groups fall into three categories:

  • Prospective Referrals
  • Personally Referred Affiliates (PRAs)
  • Silver Affiliates and above

Read on for tips, strategies, and tools for effective and profitable follow-ups within each group.

Prospective Referrals

Here are our suggested guidelines for following up with those interested in subscribing to ECommergy and possibly becoming an SFI Affiliate:

1. Keep it simple! Provide concise instructions. A confused mind will not act.

2. Always identify yourself as an SFI Marketing Group affiliate so they make the connection as to why you're contacting them. If you're going to be their Personal Advisor, let them know that, too.

3. Make it short, friendly, and personal. Use their name in your salutation if you can.

4. Offer to answer questions they might have about SFI and home business in general. You may also wish to include a short testimonial of how the system is working for you (if you've got a good, strong testimonial to offer, that is). Offer friendly guidance and support!

5. Do NOT make aggressive statements like, "If you want to make money with this you need to become an SFI Affiliate now." This will only cause backlash. Our system clearly works, and one big reason is because we bring people through in steps, without undue pressure. We show them the BENEFITS of participating in subscribing to ECommergy and let them decide. There's no need to twist anyone's arm.

6. Do NOT get into long, drawn-out explanations of ECommergy, SFI's compensation plan, the Zing Network, etc. You may, however, wish to let your prospects know that they have a 10-day free trial to ECommergy, where they can learn more with absolutely no obligation.

7. Remind them that there's no obligation to join SFI. They can take their time, learn about all the benefits of SFI, and take advantage of all our free training...and opt out of SFI whenever they wish.

8. Do NOT confuse them with references to other products, services, or business opportunities.

Personally Referred Affiliates (PRAs)

When your PRAs and PRMs first subscribe to ECommergy, our Website guides them through the initial steps and suggestions they need to get started right. NOTE: For a list of all your PRAs, see your Referrals Report.

Here are some suggested guidelines for following up with your PRAs:

1. Always identify yourself as their SFI  Personal Advisor, so your new affiliates make the connection as to why you're contacting them.

2. Refer ALL your new PRAs to the Affiliate Center, where they can begin to immediately familiarize themselves with the SFI program.

3. Make your communication (e-mail, print, etc.) with them short, friendly, and personal (if possible). Use their name in your salutation if you can. TIP: Check out the STREAM at the SFI Affiliate Center, along with your PSA Mailer.

4. Offer to answer questions they might have. Offer to assist them in getting their new business up and running. Offer ways you can work together to build your businesses (remember, TEAMWORKING is the key to building huge incomes with our system!!). You may also wish to include a short testimonial of how the system is working for you (if you've got a good, strong testimonial to offer, that is). Offer your friendship. Above all else, help us get our new affiliate off to a good start!

5. Do NOT make aggressive statements like, "If you want to make money with this you need to LEVEL UP now." This will only cause backlash and cause people to opt out of SFI. Our system clearly works, and one big reason is because we bring people through in steps, without undue pressure. We show them the BENEFITS of participating in SFI and let them decide. There's no need to twist anyone's arm.

6. Do NOT get into long, drawn-out explanations of ECommergy, SFI's compensation plan, the Zing Network, etc. Instead, encourage them to complete their Affiliate Profile if they haven't already and point them to other helpful areas of the SFI Affiliate Center, such as the SFI Forum, SFI Basics, LaunchPad, and our Support Desk, for more information and details. The power is our SYSTEM. Stay focused on that!

7. Do NOT confuse them with references to other products, services, or business opportunities. (In fact, this is considered "cross-solicitation," a serious violation of SFI policy that is grounds for termination.)

Silver Level Affiliates & Above

Here are some suggested guidelines for following up with Silver Affiliates or above:

1. Always identify yourself as their Personal Advisor so your affiliates make the connection as to why you're contacting them.

2. Ensure ALL your up-and-coming leaders remain familiar with updates, tips, news, and other information on their SFI Affiliate Center homepage.

3. Make your communication (e-mail, print, etc.) with them short, friendly, and (if possible) personal. Use their name in your salutation if applicable. TIP: Check out the STREAM on your home page for an easy way to post short notices and reminders to all or some of your affiliates logged into the Affiliate Center.  Also, use your PSA Mailer to e-mail newsletters, notices, and other group-specific messages..

4. Offer to answer questions they might have. Offer to assist them in achieving the goal of DUPLICATING your team-building efforts and maintaining their level each month. Offer ways you can work with your affiliates to achieve maximum commissions each month and build your businesses together (remember, TEAMWORKING is the key to building huge incomes with our system!!). You may also wish to include a short testimonial of how the system is working for you (if you've got a good, strong testimonial to offer, that is). Offer your friendship. Above all else, encourage your team to continue to take action and build their businesses!
